Lethal dose of water compared to kratom, HHC, nicotine and alcohol
Water
- As we've already mentioned, the lethal dose of water is six liters for a 75-kilogram person. The cause of water poisoning is hyponatremia, which leads to cell swelling, including the brain. Water poisoning can be fatal if symptoms are not recognized in time and treatment is not started.
- Kratom is a tropical tree whose leaves contain active substances that act as stimulants or sedatives, depending on the dose. Although there are no known cases of death directly caused by kratom overdose, extremely high doses (more than 15 grams) can cause adverse effects and health risks, especially gastrointestinal issues and the risk of developing addiction.
- HHC is a synthetic cannabinoid that mimics the effects of THC, the main psychoactive component of marijuana. With HHC, as with THC, there is no record of death as a result of overdosing on these substances. However, as with other synthetic cannabinoids, excessive use of HHC can lead to dangerous effects such as confusion, seizures, and increased anxiety. It is important to use HHC responsibly and in accordance with recommended dosing.
Nicotine
- The lethal dose of nicotine is estimated to be 30-60 mg for an adult person. This means that consuming a large amount of tobacco products or nicotine substitutes in a short period of time can be lethal. Nicotine is also addictive, which increases the risk of misuse and health problems associated with long-term use.
- Smoking tobacco products, such as cigarettes, is particularly harmful because in addition to nicotine, other toxic chemicals are present due to the combustion of tobacco. These substances increase the risk of a range of health problems such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cardiovascular disease. It is important to distinguish between nicotine and smoking tobacco. Nicotine is the main addictive component of tobacco products and is responsible for smoking addiction. However, alternative ways of administering nicotine, such as nicotine patches or gum, are not associated with the same health risks as smoking tobacco.
Alcohol
- Alcohol is one of the most dangerous substances on this list in terms of the risk of overdose and death. The lethal dose of alcohol varies depending on individual factors such as weight, tolerance, and metabolism. For an adult person, the lethal blood alcohol level (BAC) typically ranges between 0.30 and 0.40%. High BAC can cause respiratory arrest, coma, and death. Alcohol is also addictive and long-term misuse of alcohol can lead to serious health problems, including cirrhosis of the liver and very strong psychological and physical dependence.
Comparing the risks associated with water, kratom, HHC, nicotine, and alcohol shows that even basic components of life, like water, can be lethally dangerous if consumed in excess. Compared to water, which can be lethal if six liters are consumed, other substances like kratom, HHC, nicotine, and alcohol present various levels of risk. Alcohol is the most dangerous of these substances, whereas nicotine is less dangerous if used responsibly and in limited amounts. Kratom and HHC have not yet caused any fatal overdoses, but their uncontrolled use can lead to addiction and health problems.
In conclusion, the use of any substance, including water, requires a responsible approach and adherence to recommended dosages. It is important to educate ourselves about the risks and effects of substances we consume and always act responsibly and thoughtfully in their use.
